Working toward a Greener Bronx

Create Green Collar Jobs
As we launch our green developments, we will also be creating a new wave of green collar jobs. Green-collar jobs gets the Bronx economy running again and improves the environment at the same time. These jobs consist of manufacturing, delivering and installing clean energy technologies such as solar panels, installing glass in energy efficient windows. Renovating buildings and energy systems to make them more efficient and save money.
Promoting local Farmer's Markets
There has been an increase in interest in farmer's markets and with god reason. As your city councilwoman Yudelka wants to increase the availability of these great markets because of their ability to provide an abundance of locally grown produce and plants that help promote healthy diets to the neighborhood.
Open our schoolyards to the public in every neighborhood
Our schoolyards are excellent sources of open space which our children can utilize. We need to keep them open so that the surrounding community can have access to them.
Fulfill the potential of our undeveloped park sites
We currently have many parks in our district that still need development, along with maintaing. Our parks are all we have left in taking our children to play, and we want to ensure that we have clean and safe parks. Yudelka will invest in our parks in order to make them greener, and safer.
Installing energy efficient lights in our parks and streets
It is vital that we install energy efficient lights in our parks and street. Yudelka will work toward maximize time on our existing turf fields by installing lights that will illuminate our streets and parks at night.
Create new public plazas in our communities
Public plaza's are community amenities that serves members of the public. This space type functions as pedestrian site arrival points, homes for public art and gardens, and settings for recreation and relaxation. Plazas are a beneficial feature of any lively streetscape. These plazas will feature seating, tables, bicycle racks, cigarette urns, green trash receptacles, flagpoles, lighting, and tree grates. These public plazas are an essential element in creating useful and functional outdoor space.
Fill every available street tree opportunity in our district with a tree
The air quality in the Bronx is very poor and in order to promote healthy air in the Bronx, we need to plant more trees. Utilizing the MillionTreesNYC initiative, we will plant and care for hundred of new trees across the district over the next decade. By planting more trees, we will increase our urban forest (street trees, park trees, and trees on public, private and commercial land) by 20%, while achieving the many quality-of-life benefits that come with planting trees.
Educate the residents of the 14th district on how to go GREEN!
